Is there a way I can find out daughters email password?

I know nothing about computers. I am worried she may be emailing a much older guy. I don't want to say anything to her until I know for sure. I have heard of a keystroke thing that will get her password. Do you guys know anything about this?

Is there a way I can find out daughters email password?
I ask my kids their passwords all the time (only because I keep forgetting). They know that one condition of using the computer is I may sometimes check up on them to be sure they are being safe. Honesty is the best policy--and it goes both ways. If your daughter finds out that you're snooping--she'll no doubt find a way to work around you. And if you don't know much about computers, it would be easy for her to do. Plus, she's more likely texting or messaging. Most kids don't use email much. Good luck...
Reply:The idea of a password is security on the computer. If there was a simple keystroke that allowed you to bypass the password then the password is useless. Some computers will save passwords on them so that you do not have to type them over and over. Yahoo will allow you to do that. However, the user can turn that on or off. Without that turned on then you would just have to guess the password.
Reply:Insted of going behind your daughters back and betraying her trust, why dont you talk to her and express your fear and concerns to her! Try not to bring it into an argument though!

This way she will know your concerns and she might tell you if she is or not! You could also ask her to see if she is or not, but then doing this your daughter might think that you do not trust her!
Reply:Yes. There is software you can purchase and download to her computer. It will take screen images of what she is doing on the computer and store them. It will also record key strokes so you can get passwords and see what she is typing in emails / and in chat rooms. Here is an example of what I am talking about: http://www.awarenesstech.com/Cheating/

It runs in the background and your daughter will never have a clue that it is there. You just need to access the computer while she is away to see what is going on.
Reply:You should really just talk to her. Don't talk from a mom prespective but from a friend perspective. Hopefully she can open up to you. Seeing what she says to this older guy is only going to make you mad. Chances are, she's in puppy love but she just doesn't understand how serious this situation can be. My little sis was 15 and met a 27 year old and got pregnant by him. No one knew about this until she was pregnant. Watch over your daughter!!! Don't push her away by being mean or telling her what she can't do. Help her!
Reply:yes Maplins sell them

But you'd have to know SOMETHING about computers before you'd be able to use it?

I think by snooping on a teenager in this way you will destroy your relationship with her though. It is a form of stalking.
Reply:yeah you could put a keystroke copier on to the pc which copies every keystroke but it'll just show you lines of text and you'll need to decipher it to see whixh ones are her password
Reply:It's a keylogger and some advanced programs will tell you a lot of information if you really want to know. A better option would be to just ask to read her e-mail when you see her on it.
Reply:you should talk to her about it. you shouldn't betray her trust and do that unless you're really worried. she won't trust you anymore if she finds out about that.
Reply:What a handy thing that would be i would of found out much earlier that my ex partner was obsessed to cyber sex if i knew his password. and i wouldnt be so hut just now.
Reply:What you are proposing is sneaky and dishonest and disrespectful of your daughter's privacy.

Either ask her straight out or stop sneaking around, she will never trust you again after you humiliate her like this.
Reply:I need this advise also
Reply:I agree with gym stop being a nosy sneeky person and be nice and good and TALK to your daughter! Thats the problem with the world people do not have enough genuine one on one chats!
Reply:Yes there is but DON'T! It's not fair. Try talking to her, failing that, let her make her own mistakes.
Reply:interesting, intriguing
Reply:just ask her
