How do I password protect an email?

How can I send confidential emails? I thought I could password protect them, but I can't work how to do it. Can anyone help? It would make my line of work a lot easier if I could. I want to send an email that can only be read by the recipient using a password, is that possible? Do I need to use a word document and attach it? What is the easiest way to do it?

How do I password protect an email?
There are programs like GnuPG and PGP which are written exactly for this purpose. They encrypt a file or an e-mail which then can only be opened by someone owning the correct key.

With GPGoe you can easily integrate this into Outlook Express, but the receiver needs a FreePGP compatible client, too. Anyway, this is definitely the easiest, best and most secure way to encrypt confidential data.

Once GnuPG is set up you just have to click "encode e-mail" and enter your password within your e-mail client - dead easy to use.
Reply:The easiet way would be to encrypt it somehow. Search google and you'll probably get alot of results. The only way you can put a password on a file is if it's a zip file. SO you would probably have to put the word document in a zip and add a password. Sorry i can't help more.
Reply:As Sean said, encryption or send info as a password compressed file attachment. However, there is something else to be considered.

- If person that receives the email does not password protect his/her email account, it won't stop others from seeing it.

- If you encrypt it, the receiver needs to know what code is used and if his/her computer isn't private, again it won't guarantee that others cannot see it.

- If you compressed it, the same applies as the first two points.
